Gainesville Special Election
The residents of Gainesville will be voting in a special election to fill the seat being vacated by Commissioner Johnson. Johnson announced her resignation on August 23, and her official last day on the city commission will be October 1. All registered voters will have the opportunity to vote in the November 16, election, but they have to be registered by October 18.
The qualifying period for candidates to enter the race for the commission seat recently ended. Five candidates have officially qualified for the election and they will have the opportunity to campaign to become the next city commissioner. If you would like to vote by mail the deadline to request a ballot is November 6, by 5 pm. Early voting will begin Friday, Nov. 12, and end Sunday, Nov. 15 from 9 am - 6 pm each day.
